CLIMATE NEUTRAL EVENTS? HOW DOES IT WORK?

As an ecological company, Service Energie attaches great importance to environmental and climate protection. From the production of electricity with our own hydroelectric power plants to energy-saving office buildings, the topic of ecology is very important. Of course, we also live this "green" philosophy in marketing, which is not easy, especially when it comes to organizing events. This year, many events were organized where climate neutrality played an important role. But what is a climate neutral event and what do you have to pay attention to?

AVOIDING CO2 EMISSIONS IN ADVANCE

Already in the planning phase, thought is given to where CO2 can be saved. This starts with the choice of the event location. If the municipality buys the electricity from Nature Energy, a large part of the CO2 emissions can be avoided. Another important element, which often accounts for almost half of the CO2 emissions of the entire event, is mobility. We always choose locations that are easily accessible so that visitors can arrive by bicycle or public transport. Of course, many visitors still want to travel by car. How can we make public transport more attractive for them? At this year's public exhibition in Lörrach, attractive alternatives were proposed: In cooperation with the SBB, additional trains were provided for guests, which was also very well received. We also set up an electric filling station. The gas station was used for every public visit. We also addressed the issue of mobility at the open-air Kieswerk in Weil am Rhein. In order to reduce CO2 emissions, an electric car was made available to the organizers for the transportation of materials. Another aspect of event organization is the selection of suppliers. Only local service providers are used, such as for the printing of the flyers or for the "smiley apples" for the sponsoring of the Loerrach Court, which are supplied by a farm in Maulburg. This shortens the transport routes.

CLIMATE NEUTRALITY WITH CLIMATE PARTNER

Of course, not all CO2 emissions can be avoided within the organization. That is why we cooperate with the service provider "Climate Partner", who helps us to become climate neutral. With the help of a questionnaire, all unavoidable CO2 emissions are recorded. This includes catering, transport and mobility. The emissions are made climate neutral by purchasing certificates. Currently, the certificates used by Service énergétique support the construction of a hydroelectric power plant in Renun, Indonesia. However, not all projects are eligible for funding. They must meet various criteria, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions over the long term. Since the greenhouse effect is a global problem, it does not matter where the emissions are produced or saved.

CONCLUSION: EXEMPLARY FUNCTION IN THE FIELD OF ECOLOGY

As an environmentally friendly company, Service Energie also wants to set an example at events. Wherever possible, we try to reduce CO2 emissions. As this is of course never completely successful, we have found a suitable solution with Climate Partner to offset CO2 emissions and thus support projects. Customers and visitors appreciate these efforts in particular.
